A Blueprint For Survival – Unlock #4!
If the part of the world you’re in happens to bring in a lot of sunlight, we hope you’re basking in as much of it as possible. That’s because the Kickstarter campaign for Don’t Starve: The Board Game is getting closer, and when it’s finally here, things are about to get very dark very soon.
In this week’s update, we’re talking about the perks of having a base camp when you’re out trying not to get killed, as well as player progression in the game and the means of making it happen. We’re also taking a look at the second Survivor to join the roster – plus some freshly unlocked content!
A Home Away From Home
It’s difficult to forge order out of chaos, and the predicament faced daily by the Survivors in Don’t Starve: The Board Game is the very essence of chaos. But, as should be apparent to any good survivalist, the first step on the path of endurance in the unknown is to establish a home base.
The base camp is a place where the Survivors can take a breather from the perils of exploration, but also slowly work out a semblance of stability amid the unwelcoming circumstances of their imprisonment. This is accomplished through the construction of a diverse set of structures. Putting a stick and a rock together using Ewecus snot won’t cut it, though. Before you can build a structure, you need to know how to do it. Hence: blueprints.
“Blue is obviously the most scientific color.” – Wilson

Blueprint Blues
To gauge player progress, Don’t Starve: The Board Game uses a special Unlock Sheet, which offers increasingly impressive tiers of items, recipes, and blueprints. To access a new goodie, the players use Unlock Points awarded to them after completing each scenario. These also depend on the chosen difficulty level. If you opt for the piece of cake approach, it’ll take you much more effort to have that cake and eat it. (That didn’t come out right.) The higher the difficulty, the more points for you to spend. (Much better.)
Structures open up a whole new world of possibilities for the Survivors, with sweet effects and handy bonuses. A proper choice of structures is a good way to gain the upper hand against the forces of darkness, especially since any structure that you unlock becomes available to you for the rest of your playthrough!
A Curious Set Of Structures
If you haven’t yet, make sure to follow Don’t Starve: The Board Game and claim your follower gift: the Constant Curiosities mini-expansion, packed with a trove of playable items. Today you get to enjoy the Blueprints for two new, exclusive structures – the Night Light and the Meat Effigy. Both are magical and both require a high price to activate. The first lets you trade a bit of psychological well-being for a strong source of light; the latter exacts a heavy toll on your life force but enables you to return to the world of the living once you meet your next brutal death.
Everything Dies
Speaking of eschatology, our intrepid gentleman scientist Wilson is joined at the camp by the death-obsessed ghost-whisperer Wendy!

Her abilities have a lot to do with her twin sister, Abigail. She, in turn, would be dying to meet you, if it weren’t for the fact that she’s already a spook. Drop by our Kickstarter preview page for a look at Wendy’s ability cards.
